Introducing codeShare by EverFro

The Web, codeShare

It has been a long time coming but today we are releasing codeShare to the public. We’ve been looking to give something back to all those who have helped us in the past and that the community can use. So we designed codeShare as a simple site that allows users to share code with other developers. Instead of sending a file through e-mail simply post your code on codeShare, select the length of time to save the code, add any comments then send your private URL.

You can even add comments to each line individually. Fellow coders can then review your code and comments via the private URL you provide. They can even make comments or suggestions via the user comment form.

This project is very much a work in progress, but we believe it is good enough to release and start letting you all use. If you have any comments or suggestions please e-mail me at ryan DOT everhart AT gmail DOT com. We’d appreciate any and all feedback.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask how does this site work. No where is there a simple way to view any of the code that is submitted or view the code that I post. This looks like a work in progress.

The codeshare idea is great. For ideas to expand it look at the following two sites. If I was working on it then I would expand it to focus on all of Adobe products (CF, AS, Flex, ...)

Good Luck,

Tony,
I'm very interested in your comments. Everything seems to work for the users I've talked to. You should be able to review your code right after submitting it on the home page. Are you not?

Thanks,
Ryan

Cool idea - obviously you wouldn't want to post any sensitive code out here. I'm wondering about the following for this simple 1 day test:
http://codeshare.everfro.com/novbcc92
1) How could I extend the time frame or update my original code?
2) I noticed that code doesn't display in the comments - putting code in the comments makes any tags like <cfoutput> "disappear".
3) What is the function of the email address? As I see it, it looks like the reviewer puts in an email address, but when I posted my code, I didn't put in my email address - so why does the reviewer enter an email address again?

Jason,
Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it. We are working on a couple things that will address some of your concerns.

1) User Registration and log in. This feature will allow users to log into the site and post code for extended periods, potentially providing an option for non-expiring code. This user feature will also give the user access to comments to the code they have posted without having to refer to the private link. It is in this area that we will also have the e-mail addresses available for the poster to see who commented. So that is where the e-mail addresses come in.

I'll look into the disappearing comments issue tonight. I've also noticed that the <script part of <script> tags are replaced with <invalidTag. This is something else we'll have to look at.

I hope this helps and again, I appreciate the feedback. Please keep it coming.

Ryan
