Back in April of 2002 I lost a dear friend while he was serving his country in Afghanistan. Sergeant Jamie O'Dell Maugans lost his life while disarming ordinance his unit had found. You see Jamie joined the Army and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) in 1997 not only because he "liked blowing s*&t up" but also because he knew what he was doing was saving lives.
What has promted this post is a bill that has been introduced by U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt to rename the Post Office in Derby, Kansas (my and Jamie's home town) to the "Sergeant Jamie O. Maugans Post Office Building”. What an awesome way to remember a man that gave his life to keep us free and safe.
As we've all said before, we will never forget you Jamie and with this a lot more will remember you as well. God Bless! We miss you!
