MythTV Here I Come

Based on what I saw at a friend's house last Friday I had to get a system put together for MythTV.  I plan on using it right now for all of the girls movies (No more scratched DVDs!!) but who knows what all I'll do with it.  Digital TV over the air comes to mind.  Here is a list of compoents.  Thanks to Jon Hall for helping me put it together.

What do you think?  Does anyone out there MythTV??  I'm excited!!

Good Day!
Ryan

GBPVR has really grown up since I last looked at it! I still stick with mythTV, cause it is what I know, and I like the different modules and the wealth of knowledge available. If you want to go the pay route you can also look at sageTV.

I am now officially jealous of your build, I am sure we will be chatting more when you get it all built! Next stop, home theater =P

Thanks Jon! What do you think about that hard drive? Most of the reviews on the Green Power hard drives are pretty good. Plus 750gb can't be wrong!

Looks good, I hadn't seen those, but anything to knock off a few watts on a machine that will be running most of the time.

750GB for $110 is not bad at all! plus you don't have to mess with RAID or any other complex setup with multiple drives.

Tell Jon "hi" for me. We need to start a Myth users group...

Here's a video I made about Mythbuntu. I highly recommend it. youtube.com/watch?v=b-yNCqj_MXs

See the comments for my build specs.

I'm interested in hearing how it works out for you. I've been using an old PC as a MythTV box for a while now, but might be interested in upgrading to a smaller form factor some day. So let us know how your hardware choices work out.

Cool, That system should work well. My HD died before I moved so I just reloaded Mythbuntu 8.4.1. It's very easy way to get started. Once it was up and running all the windows machines in my house reported "There is a media server on the network do you want to share media". Very Nice. I would make sure you check the hardware compatiblity lists at mythbuntu.org and mythtv.org before you order a tuner card. Another thing you should check out is a plugin called MythNetTV which will download video podcasts and transcode them so they show up like recorded TV shows on MythTV. http://www.stillhq.com/mythtv/mythnettv/000008.htm...

Have fun, and feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Adam sent me this link: http://revision3.com/systm/bmwt/ If you haven't watched any Revision3 shows, you need to, but the point of this one was mythTV.

Hmmm Amazon hasn't even charged my CC yet for my harddrive. I bought it from one of their resellers.... might have been a bad idea. I was hoping to build it over the weekend.

So I got a note from Amazon the reseller has shipped my harddrive, should be here on Friday as well. I also dug a little deeper into the reseller who was listed as BuyNow. It turns out BuyNow is buy.com. Does that seem weird to you? It's like Target reselling in a WalMart store to me.

Considering they just sold you a hard drive that you wouldn't have bought from them by going to their site,.

A company willing to use a competitor to sell their own equipment, and succeed...genius.
