Compact Florresent Lamps
Going Green
We went a little green this weekend at my house. I purchased 22 CFL's (Compact Florresent Lamps) at Wal-Mart much to the dislike of my wife. She understands saving the world and all but doesn't like the $45 in light blubs it takes to do it. However if what I read on the package is correct these bulbs should last a long time and the savings in using just two of these bulbs over their life time should more than pay for the cost of 22 blubs.
As some people have commented before the color of the light is different with CFLs but I believe it's something we can all get used to. I have many more blubs to go to complete the whole house but I used the 22 blubs I bought what I believe are the most used lights. The wattage savings on the new blubs is amazing. A new CFL 60 uses only 14 watts of power vs the 60 watts of power in a traiditional blub. That is a huge amount of energy and cost savings!! With CFLs 60 is only a number to relate the amount of light back to the traditional blubs. A CFL 40 only uses 9 watts of power! Thes blubs are plenty bright for the lamps in our house.
On my way home today I saw and ad for GreenDallas.net. I haven't checked it out yet but it is suppose to have ideas of how to make your house more green. Hopefully I'll have some time soon to do a review. What are you all doing to be green?
On a side note CFLs are more expensive at a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market than they are at a Wal-Mart Superstore, go figure!
Good Day!
Ryan
